Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Ancient Manuscripts are fundamental testimonies of culture, art and knowledge, reflecting the social and economic context of their production environment. In the last decades, the study of Ancient Manuscripts has shifted from invasive to non-invasive analysis. At the same time, the richness of information regarding their production and degradation has increased. With more accurate information regarding the materials, painting formulations and degradation phenomena, new advancements in the Conservation and Restoration of Ancient Manuscripts have allowed for the preservation of these artworks for the future generations.

This Special Issue aims to gather works on state-of-the-art approaches to the material characterisation of Ancient Manuscripts (support, inks, colour paints, binding), the developments of new approaches to their Conservation and Restoration and the latest findings regarding the Art and Technological Source Research production of these artworks.

Given your expertise in this field of research, we invite you to submit your recent developments in this field to this Special Issue: “Advancements in the Conservation and Restoration of Ancient Manuscripts”.
