Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In 2018, the Paris agreement set the goal for countries around the world to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, the recent pandemic had a significant effect on economic and social balancing all over the world. Therefore, sustainability has become the most concerning factor throughout the globe. Consequently, there is a dire need to develop an efficient decision-making model with sustainability implementation for supporting governments in getting over the sustainable crisis in various sectors, such as logistics, hospitality, tourism, business, construction, etc.

Due to certain uncontrollable and inevitable factors, information regarding decision systems is often imprecise. Accordingly, several studies have focused on handling uncertainties in decision systems. Fuzzy sets, developed by L. A. Zadeh in 1965, have been widely applied in various decision-making fields. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has increased ambiguousness in decisions regarding data. As a result, traditional uncertainties are inadequate to solve the issues arising in complex decision-making problems.

Hence, for this Special Issue, we are pleased to invite you to submit papers regarding the advancement and extension of fuzzy set theory that can handle uncertain, ambiguous, and noisy information in various sustainable decision-making problems. In addition to the above, this Special Issue aims to gather recent advances in the use of fuzzy decision system for sustainable decision making.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Continuous and discrete fuzzy set theory in decision making;

This study aims to effectively support decision-makers in evaluating leading e-commerce companies in Vietnam from a sustainability perspective. In addition, this study evaluates and analyzes criteria that affect the performance of e-commerce companies in Vietnam to find the best practices for e-commerce implementation of managers. In this way, companies can save costs and increase marketing and promotion efficiency, helping to reach more customers. In doing so, an integrated framework based on MCDM is proposed for the first time in e-commerce industry assessment. In the first stage, the fuzzy decision making trial and evaluation Laboratory method is applied to determine the weights of 9 criteria based on collected data. This study lists prominent quantitative evaluation criteria, taking into account the sustainability aspect. In the second phase, ranking the top 12 e-commerce companies in Vietnam according to their performance based on these nine criteria was done by applying the neutrosophic fuzzy axiomatic design method. According to an analysis of the data, the external financial assistance coefficient (12.7%) is the most crucial factor determining how competitive international e-commerce businesses are. The results of this study can help underperforming companies make strategic decisions to improve their performance. Integrating these two techniques provides a new method for evaluating global trading companies that have hitherto remained unaddressed in the trading industry and, therefore, leave a gap that needs to be investigated. This study aims to assess the barriers impeding cloud computing (CC) applicability in sustainable construction. A total of 11 barriers in the use of CC were identified for the literature review. A questionnaire survey was used to collect the data from construction stakeholders. In total, 101 valid responses were obtained and analyzed using mean ranking, normalized value (NV), overlapping analysis, Kruskal–Wallis H test, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE). The EFA extracted four interrelated components: social, economic, expertise, and connectivity. These components were exported for mathematical analyzing using the FSE technique. As a result, the FSE indicated that connectivity is the highest-impacted component, while the overall impact level of barriers is inclined to high regarding CC applicability in sustainable construction. This is due to other components having an average to high impact level. In this regard, the findings reflect the actual current status of developing countries in using CC in sustainable construction. These research findings will allow construction stakeholders to take proactive steps toward increasing the use of CC in their current and future sustainable construction. Decision-makers could also make accurate decisions that are well-informed in managing CC barriers. This paper provides stakeholders, researchers, and decision-makers with a list of CC barriers that hinder developing countries. Full article

Developing a promising technology that copes with the industrial warehousing environment requires special preparation. It includes infrastructure, equipment, resources, knowledge, efficiencies, and strategies for dealing with failures. This study examines Technology 4.0 driven warehouse practices and performance based on a thorough literature review. The study presents a unique proposition as it considers a two-fold fuzzy Delphi analysis to rank the Technology 4.0 driven practices using best-worst method (BWM) based on experts’ responses. Warehouse performance measures are evaluated by the Combined Compromise Solution (CoCoSo) method. The results indicate the contributions of a ‘Man-machines or robots for facilitating human’; ‘Planning system for management’; ‘Storage systems’ as as leading practices contributing to ‘improved inventory management’, ‘effective storage and distribution’, and ‘improved distribution and shipping or delivery process’. Using this study, researchers and managers will better understand how to adopt technology in warehouse management system. Full article
