Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Liver, the largest organ in the human body, is considered to be a determent in variable biological processes, including metabolism, immunity, and homeostasis. Hepatic cells are composed of parenchymal cells (hepatocytes, cholangiocytes, and liver sinusoidal endothelial cells) and non-parenchymal cells (kupffer cells, hepatic stellate cells, infiltrating immune cells, etc.). A complex of immune and metabolic regulation exists in the liver, maintaining biological functions and responding actively to homeostatic disturbances. In liver diseases, each specific cell–cell interaction can influence disease progressions, such as liver regeneration, ductular reaction, fibrosis, inflammation, and carcinogenesis. Notably, liver inflammation is a hallmark of progressive liver diseases. Furthermore, immunomodulation, initiated by cellular interactions and secretome, serves both the fundamental roles and main challenges in the management of liver diseases.

In this Special Issue, we will try to summarize advances in cellular interactions and immunomodulation in liver diseases. We also intend to promote investigations on the immune and metabolism landscape and its implications in liver pathomechanisms, e.g., by revealing multicellular crosstalk, identifying key factors, and developing novel technics.
