Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Polymers are a primary choice for packaging food, medical, and other engineering products. Though their outstanding barrier properties, mechanical properties, and lower cost make them preferable to other alternatives, there are serious concerns raised due to their detrimental effects caused by their disposal and degradation. In addition to these problems, there have been rising alarms for their interaction, primarily when used for packaging food products. Globally, there has been a strong drive to reduce and recycle used packaging material. While this requirement may or may not be immediately achievable, academicians and industrialists conduct cutting-edge research to design sustainable polymeric materials that have less impact on the environment. Consequently, many biopolymers and synthetic polymers are invented with or without different additives that can accomplish the aforementioned goals.

This Special Issue on “Polymer Packaging Materials: Design, Synthesis and Applications” provides the scientific community an opportunity to present their research findings or an update on the structure–property relationships of novel polymers, including biopolymers or conventional polymers with new additives used for packaging applications—more explicitly targeted towards achieving minimal environmental impact and maximum synthesis using renewable sources that lead to sustainability while not compromising on the desired barrier, mechanical and thermal properties.

Research articles as well as reviews are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
