Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The transformation of the global energy system, in line with the Paris Agreement, requires a fast uptake of renewables throughout all kinds of energy use. This transformation not only requires a rapid integration of renewables throughout all kinds of energy use but also a scaling up of technologies, such as thermal energy storage (TES) systems, to help address among others waste heat/cold energy recovery processes and the grid integration of renewable energy sources.

Indeed, the development of new processes and applications of TES systems will be able to support the development of more efficient energy systems reducing both energy consumption and environmental impacts. Furthermore, TES are becoming crucial components for many novel electrical energy storage technologies, among which Carnot batteries, allowing to achieve a desirable high level of performance.

This is a special issue dedicated to recent advances in the Process and Application of Thermal Energy Storage System. Research and reviews articles are therefore invited to be submitted to this Special Issue, so as to contribute to this research field with studies related to:

  • High-efficient and cost-effective TES technologies, including sensible heat, phase change material, and thermo-chemical processes.
  • Techno-economic analysis, environmental assessment, and optimization of the TES for different applications, among which are power generation, energy storage, energy conversion, and refrigeration.
  • Novel development of TES for Carnot batteries.
  • Novel applications of TES technologies for different processes.
  • Control strategies and algorithms for the TES technologies.
  • Artificial intelligence is applied to TES technologies.

Furthermore, comprehensive reviews covering wide-range interests related to the technical advancement of thermal energy storage applications and processes are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
