Special Issue Information

Dear Colleague,

The Ukraine crisis has caused severe disruptions to global markets for critical raw materials used by the electrical and the electronics industry. To address this challenge, circular economy (CE) has the potential to exploit and recover value from e-waste under conditions that are economically, environmentally and socially acceptable.
Recently, the E-waste becomes the rapidly growing domestic waste stream across the globe. This is mainly due to shorter life cycles, frequent changes in technology, shorter life spans, changes in consumer behavior and limited options of repair for EEE. However, despite the fact that CE business models are considered as a potential and viable solution for E-waste Management, very little attention has been paid to the operationalization of CE principles and practices to support E-waste Management.
The main goal of this Special Issue is to fill this knowledge gap and provide companies and policymakers with useful suggestions on how the CE practices and principles can contribute to improve E-waste Management. The issue is open to papers adopting different research methodologies from qualitative to quantitative one. Both theoretical and practical contributions are welcome.

Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • E-waste management policies and initiatives based on circular economy principles;
  •  Technologies and innovations to support circular economy in the context of e-waste recycling, recovery, and treatment;
  • Barriers, challenges and critical success factors to circular economy implementation in E-waste management systems;
  •  Quality issues related to using E-wastes as production inputs.
  • Circular economy strategies, methods, and approaches to prevent e-waste generation;
  • Policy measures to support E-waste management in the light of the circular economy principles.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
