Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, the quest for sustainable transport and land use is paramount in shaping a sustainable future. The interdependence between transport and land use constitutes a fundamental nexus that collectively molds the structural, societal, and economic essence of cities, communities, and human habitation. It is universally acknowledged that transport affects land use by shaping its accessibility, while land use exerts its impact on transport through human activities. Specifically, land use functions as a catalyst for travel and activity demand, profoundly shaping the trip production, attraction, distribution, and modal choices of residents. Conversely, transportation systems alter land accessibility and stimulate the demand for urban development. The evolving dynamics of urban spaces, accelerated by technological advancements and changing societal norms, underscore the need for innovative, sustainable solutions in land use planning and transportation systems.

This Special Issue aims to delve into the intricate relationship between sustainable transport and land use, offering insights into how their synergy can be harnessed for a sustainable future. We invite contributions that present novel case studies and methodological and theoretical advancements in this field. This issue will serve as a platform for sharing cutting-edge ideas, methodologies, and practical applications that push the boundaries of current knowledge and practice.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Emerging transport technologies: implications and applications;
  • Smart growth: integrating land use and transport systems;
  • Urban–rural integration: coordinated planning of land use and transport;
  • Urban and community renewal through transit development;
  • Accessibility modeling;
  • Land use effects on travel behavior and patterns;
  • Innovative approaches to integrating sustainable transport and land use planning;
  • Policy frameworks and governance models for sustainable urban development;
  • Case studies on successful models of sustainable urban development;
  • Transportation safety.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
