Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Within transport sciences, great emphasis is placed on the transport infrastructure itself. Its use, efficiency, and control over traffic flow can be improved by using technological devices and advanced systems, also known as transport telematics or Intelligent Traffic Systems. One of the fundamental components of the use of transport infrastructure and the view of future development is traffic flow modeling and operation of autonomous vehicles. Furthermore, complex applications should be considered regarding the mobility solution design, operation, and maintenance. Intelligent Transport Systems also require high operation and maintenance costs, which is just as important as the development of new systems. The mobility should be solved with regard to actual conditions and boundaries such as tunnels, bridges, historical parts of the city, etc.

Due to the complexity, the application of automated driving vehicles should respect a wide range of technological aspects such as equipment on the roads, already implemented systems, traffic management, use of variable traffic signs, lighting, positioning methods, detection of traffic or unexpected events, energy consumption, traffic flow behavior, etc. This Special Issue also aims at the ethical, legal, and other aspects of the application of mobility with regard to the safety, reliability, modeling, and others with impact on autonomous mobility.

This Special Issue therefore welcomes research papers, experimental studies, test results, and new approaches in the field of sustainable autonomous mobility in terms of safety and traffic modeling.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
