Contaminants in the Water Environment

Dear Colleagues,

Water is a basic necessity of life, but legacy and contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in the water environment can deteriorate water quality and lead to ecological and human health risks. Thousands of chemicals are produced, which usually accumulate in the environment in modern human society. Not all of these chemicals are safe; indeed, many of them can seriously impact ecology, the environment, and human health. CECs are generally new compounds and are not commonly monitored or regulated. Therefore, the identification, monitoring, and fate of contaminants in the water environment is important, especially for CECs. In this Special Issue, we welcome a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

- Identification and monitoring of contaminants;

- Method development for the detection of contaminants, especially of CECs;

- Fate of contaminants in the water environment, including rivers, lakes, and oceans;

- Ecological and health risks;

- Modeling of contaminants in the water environment.

 The following types of articles are welcome to this Special Issue:

1. Research articles;
2. Review articles;
3. Short communications;
4. Perspectives.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
