Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Very interesting  subject  but with wrong  way organized. As far as the paper structure it should  be organized  as following:

-Abstract

-Introduction

-Research  area

-Methods

-Results

-Discussion

-Conclusio

-Bibliography

The authors speak about  "Case Study", but according to my opinion doesn't  exist.
Transforming the paper structure perhaps  the results will be visible because they are invisible  now. It likes more or less an "Ideas Report".
Also as far as the management of the research area, it must be more realistic based mainly on its economic resources  according to the rules of sustainable and not on the very uncertain econmic resources  coming from taxes.

Also due to criticism against  prescribed fire you must try to find the optimum of its application for economic and ecological reasons.

You mention the need of money and you are looking them on special taxes. It is very uncertain economic resource and you must find way to create economic resources inside the research area with application of innovative ideas and the appropriate organization  and administration (visiting tickets, souvenirs, reproductive material of attractive and pharmaceutical plant  species etc.)

Side note to the editor: If you would really want us to restructure the article although we unanimously disagree with Reviewer #1's suggestion of restructuring the article given it is - in fact - a case study and not an empirical piece, then we will need the resubmit deadline to extend beyond 10 days since this would require a major rewrite.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper is well written and describes in details the current conditions and management of the study area. The suggestions for improving the area management are well stated.

• Τhe manuscript is clear, relevant for the field and presented in a well-structured manner.
• The work presented fits the journal scope.
• Te article is written in an appropriate scientific way, and the data and their analyses are presented appropriately.
• The manuscript is scientifically sound and its methodological approach appropriate.
• The figures and  images are appropriate  and suitable, and they properly show the data, in an easy to interpret and understand way.
• The management suggestions and conclusions are consistent with the evidence and arguments presented..
• The cited references are mostly recent publications and relevant.

I would suggest authors to add some information about invasion species in the area (if there are).

Reviewer 3 Report

The article presents a communication of a case of management of Fire-Dependent Ecosystem in the Urban Matrix of Miami-Dade County. The communication is well-written and structured. In my opinion, it has enough quality to be published in a diversity journal.

Minor comments:

- Use different colors in the Figure 1 legend to make identification areas easy.

- The grayscale of figure 2 is difficult to use. And with table 2, this figure is unnecessary.

- There are a few format errors that need to be solved, like the alignment of lines 249 to 257, lines 445 to 453, or deleting the space between lines 84 and 85, among others.
