Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear,
The article discusses the functional diversity of birds in the Colombian Amazon. It explains the response of bird communities to landscape changes.
The article methodologically analyzes the observed pattern of functional variability in the gradient of landscape attributes appropriately.
The explanation is clear and convincing.

The only minor remark is about the authors' morphometric measurements of birds. The authors state that they measured with an accuracy of 0.01 mm. From my many years of practice, it follows that such a precise measurement on a bird's body is not possible. The measurement error is significantly greater. Therefore, I propose a more realistic indication of the measurement accuracy.

I have no other additions or corrections!

I wish you successful bird research.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Authors,

Your manuscript titled „Functional Diversity and Ecosystem Services of Birds in Productive Landscapes of the Colombian Amazon” is well-written. I am convinced, that due to interesting topic and well-planed invetigations it might interest a broad international audience. Therefore it is worth publishing in scientific journal Diversity. Nevertheless, I have noticed some imperfections, which (in my opinion) should be corrected or at least clarified before an eventual publication. I have listed them below:

  1. In Abstract section the main conclusion should be added.
  2. In my opinion chapter Introduction should be ended by list of goals. Therefore test from lines 113-123 might be omitted or moved into Material and method section.
  3. Subchapter 2.1. I encourage authors to prepare the concise Table with characteristc of habitat conditions in study sites. The characteristic should reffer to both abiotic (e.g, light intensity, soil type) and biotic (e.g., dominant plant species, tree and shrub cover) features.
  4. 2.2. Bird Census and Functional Traits subchapter. In my opinion the Figure presenting mode of observations is desirable.
  5. In my opinion results are clearly presented and sufficiently discussed with literature of subject. However, I think that chapter Conclusions pointing out the novelty of results and indicating the directions of future studies should be added.
