Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper presents a method to design the voltage source inverters (VSI) operating in aperiodic mode and over quasi-resonant frequency. Authors used the mathematical equations of the converter to obtain the VSI component design values.

Please see the comments below:

  1. Please check the spellings in the text.
  2. Check the long sentences in the paper (eg., line 40-43). Authors intentions are not clearly described.
  3. Authors did not mention the unique contributions of the paper and how the proposed method is different from existing methods.
  4. Authors in the introduction section mentioned that five harmonics are taken into account for designing the converters whereas in the section 2, mathematical expressions does not consider the different harmonics.
  5. Authors described the steps in designing the components of converters. Eq 26-29 are standard expressions which are used in the design of any converter.
  6. In section 4, authors mentioned the basic data including operating frequency. In the earlier sections authors mentioned the proposed method is for converters operating in different modes. From the data, it is clear that authors did not consider the different modes
  7. Table I shows the parameters obtained from proposed method are almost same as standard methodology. It is clear from the results that proposed method did not provide additional benefit compared to the existing one.
  8. Authors did not evaluate the proposed methodology for converters operating in different modes.

To Reviewer 1:

Thank you very much for your review and valuable remarks.

 1. Please check the spellings in the text.

- I completely agree with your comment. The entire manuscript has been reviewed and revised.

  1. Check the long sentences in the paper (eg., line 40-43). Authors intentions are not clearly described.

- I completely agree with your comment. The manuscript has been revised to emphasize its main purpose - the presentation of a new design method, which is not inferior in accuracy to those used and also represents a development and summary of the theory of autonomous inverters.

  1. Authors did not mention the unique contributions of the paper and how the proposed method is different from existing methods.

- Thank you very much for the comment. The unique contribution of the manuscript is that on the basis of generalization of different operating modes in series RLC inverters a description of the processes in voltage source inverters is achieved. This is the new and unique.

  1. Authors in the introduction section mentioned that five harmonics are taken into account for designing the converters whereas in the section 2, mathematical expressions does not consider the different harmonics.

- In fact, I have not described the design method clearly enough. Adjustments have been made to make the manuscript the main purpose clearer. The idea is that in this method the current through the inductor is described by its actual shape, and not by working with harmonic components, such as in the analysis by the method of the first harmonic.

  1. Authors described the steps in designing the components of converters. Eq 26-29 are standard expressions which are used in the design of any converter.

- of course, I fully accept that these expressions are repetitive and not unique. They determine the equivalent parameters of the load. In this aspect, the author does not claim that all the above expressions were published by him for the first time and are unique.

  1. In section 4, authors mentioned the basic data including operating frequency. In the earlier sections authors mentioned the proposed method is for converters operating in different modes. From the data, it is clear that authors did not consider the different modes.

- in order to summarize the results, it is stated that the analysis is applicable to other operating modes. The unique thing in this case is the special case at C = infinity, when the RLC circuit degenerates into RL. Since this has not been done so far, I have focused on this particular case. The other described work regimes have been discussed in other publications of both the author and other authors, but these regimes are relatively rare and have almost no practical application.

  1. Table I shows the parameters obtained from proposed method are almost same as standard methodology. It is clear from the results that proposed method did not provide additional benefit compared to the existing one.

- Thank you very much for the comment! I reworked the text to make it clear that the new method does not achieve better accuracy, but rather it is valuable in that it makes it possible to place common denominators series RLC inverters and voltage source inverters. This is actually unique and the main contribution of the manuscript is this. I think that this will be very useful from the educational and methodological point of view for improving the training in power electronics.

  1. Authors did not evaluate the proposed methodology for converters operating in different modes.

- The comparison of the different operating modes is not the task of the present work. This will be the subject of future works by the author. The emphasis here is on using a unified approach to the analysis of large class inverters.

Thank you very much for your comments and comments! They were very useful for me to emphasize the main tasks and contributions of the manuscript, as well as to focus readers' attention on new and unique elements.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper is well written and now we need such design papers with proper explanation. This paper will be useful. Can the author add a few things as the design of other converters?

To Reviewer 2:

Thank you for your review and valuable remarks.

 - Can the author add a few things as the design of other converters?

- Thank you very much for the suggestion. The emphasis in the present work is the formulation, presentation and verification of a generalized approach for analysis and design of series RLC inverters, which allows to describe the processes in voltage source inverters. This is the main contribution of the manuscript. In this regard, I am preparing a monograph on the analysis and design of inverters, where the main emphasis will be on the presentation of convenient methods for designing basic power circuits. In this regard, thank you for your appreciation of the manuscript and for emphasizing in your review the need to create such design methodologies.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper presents an analysis of a full-bridge circuit of series RLC inverters with  reverse diodes when operating in aperiodic mode. The expressions for the state variables in normalized form with respect to the control frequency are determined. This makes it  possible to study the operation of inverters in a wide range of changes in control frequency, in different operating modes.

The abstract should be rewritten and extend a little bit the bibliography. Importance of the work should be pointed out through giving some specific results. In the conclusions in necessary to appear more emphasized the effects of different construction features upon the systems functioning.

- The abstract has been edited, emphasizing the main purpose of the article - to present a new approach to the analysis of voltage source inverters, based on a summary of series RLC inverters. Several new literatures have been added. The whole manuscript has been revised in the spirit of the main goal thus presented.

In the conclusions in necessary to appear more emphasized the effects of different construction features upon the systems functioning.

Round 2

Reviewer 3 Report

The structure is balanced. The validity of the proposed analysis and the methodology created is verified by designing a computational example of a full-bridge voltage source inverter. Verification of the results obtained from the design was done by computer simulations (LT spice).
