Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The written paper is a good one. Authors have for sure made efforts. But here are some few concerns that I would like to be addressed. These concerns are written as below:

1.Please evaluate the ethics statements and data availability statements to ensure they are adequate.

2. Is it possible to expand your research contributions into more sustainable fields?

We are grateful to you for your interest in the present paper, and for your valuable comments.

1.Please evaluate the ethics statements and data availability statements to ensure they are adequate.

About data availability statement, we wrote the following sentence:

Datasets can be made available upon request and on a case-by-case basis provided anonymity of data.

Moreover, we added the following sentence at the end of section 2.1.

Upon specific request of some of the airport managing authorities all data were presented in anonymous form.

About the ethics statements:

Although we also processed sensitive data, such data was made anonymous, and their dissemination is integral part of the project that funded this research.

2. Is it possible to expand your research contributions into more sustainable fields?

The following sentences were added to the conclusion section:

A statistical method was developed for better analyzing the environmental footprint of small and medium-size airports. The same method was successfully applied for analyzing the performance of some Adriatic ports with comparable results. On such basis, the application of the methodology to other transportation infrastructures (e.g., ports, main railway stations, and other transport hubs) could be extremely valuable. Furthermore, its application to any large-scale commercial infrastructure (e.g., malls and shopping centers) is readily foreseeable.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors provide a study that examines glasshouse gas reductions and economic benefits related with sustainable water and energy management at Adriatic airports.

The data on water, power, and energy collected by airport officials was analysed using a stepwise linear regression.

The research used a stepwise linear regression to analyse the water, electricity and energy data that was collected by airport authorities.

The article is well-structured and written. The literature study is well-written and provides a thorough overview of relevant research.

Only the depiction of the results is a problem for me. The authors, in my opinion, failed to select the most acceptable graphs for the forecasted data. The plots a1,b1,c1 & d1 in Figure 1 are difficult to interpret due to the inexplicable dots. While it is obvious that the dots represent airports, the reader is left perplexed as to which dot corresponds to which airport. The a2,b2,c2,and d2 plots are upgraded versions of the original plots, but there is no database that links A1-6 to the appropriate airports.

Same comments applies to figure 2 & 3.

More insights and details must be included for improving the readability of the results.
