Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1. Highlight the research point by point in introduction.

2. Fig. 1 is well explained and detailed.

3. Its more of theoretical explanations and its not impactfull to readers so kindly reduce the size of the content and give more impact on figures.

4. Add and discuss about the below references

Mopidevi, S., Narasipuram, R.P., Aemalla, S.R. and Rajan, H. ‘E-mobility: impacts and analysis of future transportation electrification market in economic, renewable energy and infrastructure perspective’, Int. J. Powertrains, Vol. 11, Nos. 2/3, pp.264–284, 2022.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article provides a review of the literature on telematics. The article should be accepted after a minor revision.

As a review article, the manuscript should include more graphical data, including graphs and infographics.

A summary at the end of each section should be provided for better readability.

A comparison of results/data and/or perspective/decision backed by facts/literature should be provided so the review serves as a significant contribution to the scientific community.

The conclusion section should add more statistical data.

As a review article, the manuscript should include more graphical data, including graphs and infographics.

Response. Many thanks for your suggestion. We’ve added Figure 1(b) to show the contribution of reviewed papers to the covered subjects.

A summary at the end of each section should be provided for better readability.

Response. It was implemented, please see the end of each section.

A comparison of results/data and/or perspective/decision backed by facts/literature should be provided so the review serves as a significant contribution to the scientific community.

Response. We have updated the paper throughout to make the paper more significant.

The conclusion section should add more statistical data.

Response. Done. Please see the new version of the conclusion lines 919-925.

Reviewer 3 Report

The article reviews applications of telematics data in various aspects of sustainable transportation. Not only publications but also research reports were considered. The paper refers to 90 literature sources. It was written correctly, following the accepted PRISMA methodology.  It was concluded that the use of telematics data can significantly improve research on kinematics and contextual aspects of driver behavior.

The work is of an appropriate level however I have minor comments:

- the website address should not be inside the text but in the bibliography. There should be a reference to this literature item in the text.

- figure 2 does not contribute significant content to the work should be removed

- in turn, figure 3 is valuable but has poor quality.

Response. Enacted.

Response. We have removed the figure.

- in turn, figure 3 is valuable but has poor quality.

Response. A higher resolution figure has now been inserted.

Reviewer 4 Report

The manuscript reviews how vehicle telematics can contribute to safer, cleaner and more sustainable urban transportation. The manuscript has a very interesting topic, which is of great significance. Replacing fossil fuels with clean energy is an important progress in safeguarding the human environment. Europe, China and other countries have developed rapidly in the field of clean energy vehicles. At present, there are still many difficulties in obtaining clean energy and supplementing vehicle energy, which is also one of the factors hindering future transportation development. Vehicle remote information technology is the key to solve the problem. I am glad to see that someone has made efforts in this research. This is encouraging. I'm sorry, there are some flaws in the manuscript. It seems that the author needs to make important modifications before publishing to improve the following comments:

1. I understand that the research related to the manuscript is in its infancy, and the themes are scattered. It seems that it is difficult to sort out the contributions of others, but the author's collection and sorting of literature is obviously insufficient, the number of literature retrieved is insufficient, and the direction of summary is insufficient.

2. At the end of the first chapter (introduction), the author explains the gaps in the research and needs to clarify their contributions item by item

3. The description of main technologies seems too little. Please list the mature technologies and interesting emerging technologies currently used to prove their importance and value.

4. As far as I know, in ACC/CACC and other fields, remote information technology is the basis of implementation, while in other fields, such as the ITS mentioned by the author, it seems to be dispensable or play a small role. Can the author analyze the status, proportion, development trend and other key information of remote information technology in different fields.

5. From my personal point of view, the application of telematics in transportation seems to require more than 30% of references

6. Accordingly, it seems that Chapter 8 (Telematics data processing and future research directions) needs to be enriched.

Response. Within the paper, we review 95 papers and summarize and discuss the implications of their results. The paper is large already (19 pages) and we believe further content will likely have the effect of boring the reader and hence lessening the impact of the paper.

  1. At the end of the first chapter (introduction), the author explains the gaps in the research and needs to clarify their contributions item by item

Response. Implemented.

  1. The description of main technologies seems too little. Please list the mature technologies and interesting emerging technologies currently used to prove their importance and value.

Response. Please see the response to the next comment.

Response. Many thanks for this suggestion. To address to your comment, we have now added a new paragraph to review the remarkable role of telematics data to the ACC/CACC systems. Please see the lines 864-877.

  1. From my personal point of view, the application of telematics in transportation seems to require more than 30% of references

Response. Our estimations, which are represented in Figure 1(b), shows that 34% of the references were studied the applications of vehicle telematics data to the transport technologies.

  1. Accordingly, it seems that Chapter 8 (Telematics data processing and future research directions) needs to be enriched.

Response, we’ve enriched that section with adding new refences to review the applications of telematics data in ACC/CACC systems (please see our answer to comment 4) and now also highlight the design of new cost-effective charging stations.
