Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The research purpose and the research results are well-defined. However, there are some comments:

Page 88-91. It would be marvelous to show various areas with a picture! Please consider this!

- If you have retrieved Figure 1 from other literature please mention them.

- Pages 99-105. It was great you explained MAD as it is the reason for your research purpose! Moreover, please show in the table the MAD and FC for various crops.

- Figure 3 seems to be the research results. Please pay attention! Moreover, please show the figures once it was mentioned in the text.

Reviewer 2 Report

This study focuses on a comparative analysis between heuristic and data-driven water management control for precision agriculture irrigation! In this file, you will find valuable insights on how modeling and control theory can be applied to reduce water consumption while growing healthy crops.  we have the following remarks and questions to improve the quality of this paper.

·         Clarify the term "local infrastructure": In sentence 18, you mention that local infrastructure accounts for 10% of water withdrawal. It would be helpful to define or provide examples of what is meant by "local infrastructure" to avoid any ambiguity.

·         Provide an explanation for the efficiency percentages: In sentence 23, you mention the efficiency percentages of different irrigation techniques. It would be useful to briefly explain what these percentages represent and how they are calculated. Additionally, citing the sources for these efficiency figures would enhance the credibility of the information.

·         Clarify the objective of automatic irrigation systems: In sentence 39, you state that automatic irrigation systems aim to optimize water utilization and improve crop yields. It would be beneficial to explain how these systems achieve these objectives. For example, you could mention the use of real-time data, feedback control, or advanced algorithms to make precise irrigation decisions.

·         Clarify the irrigation strategies proposed: In sentence 278, you mention that the best irrigation strategies to implement are mutual exclusion resource locking based on the dining philosophers' algorithm and dynamic feedback priority, which reduces drip irrigation. It would be beneficial to provide a brief overview or explanation of these strategies. This will help the reader understand the key principles or mechanisms behind these approaches and how they contribute to efficient water utilization.

·         Address the potential challenges and maintenance requirements: In sentence 286, you mention that implementing these strategies may require more maintenance for specialized equipment. It would be helpful to briefly discuss the potential challenges or drawbacks associated with the implementation and maintenance of these strategies. For instance, you could mention the need for proper equipment calibration, monitoring systems, or training for farmers to effectively utilize these strategies. This will provide a more balanced view of the risks and benefits involved.
