Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The topic of the manuscript " The implications of community forest income on social and environmental sustainability " is timely and fits within the scope of the Journal. However, I have highlighted weaknesses in the manuscript that need improvement. These are descriptions of the results and the use of only one statistical method, which does not give all the results presented in the manuscript.I provide detailed comments on these subsections below.

Reviewer 2 Report

But I think some important parts of the methods are missing. My comments and recommendation are:

Rows 217-219 : „As stated earlier, our goal of this paper was to assess whether and how CF income may affect social and environmental sustainability—particularly whether and how forest regeneration expenditures may be linked by CF income.“ – the objective should be more clearer. I recommend to avoid formulation with „may“ and „may be“. The goal should be slightly reformulated, f.e. The goal of the paper was to assess whether and how CF income is affected by social  and... or use condition.

Table 1 – I recommend reformatting the table, and the methodical information, such  as the open-endless/closed character of the questions ,the "unit" or something is missing, with those information, the Results would be easier to follow. F.e. questions:

„Approximately how many times are members allowed to go into the forest and collect firewood?“ – unit – number /open-ended

„Are there any benefits to nature beyond large iconic mammals of protection?“ – unit – yes/no , closed question

„What outcomes would the community forest program like to see for its members?“ – open-ended – were data analysed in linguistic expression and divided into categories?

For example Table 2 has data and no units, even though I know that income is in monetary terms, this information is missing in the table, or it should be in Table 1 as new column.

The results will be clearer if the questions and possible answers are better described in Methods Section.

„Row 265 ...other questions consisted of only two responses and were coded as binary (0,1).“ – 0,1 referred to yes and no?

Rows 292 – 309 – please correct the formatting of the text alongside the table 4
