Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear authors,

This manuscript is suitable for this journal.

But there are some suggestions.

1.Could you provide some reference based on tropical and subtropical forests for bryophyte? We also want to know more the researches in those areas.

2. Please generally edit the format for this manuscript. For example: Line 68-69: require a citation or write the concept in a different way. Format is wrong.

3. Line 93: please delete the extra sentence. Please check your manuscript to delete all extra sentence.

4. I suggest not need to bold some words since your do not explain those vocabulary. Just simply make them consistence. In addition, I do not think those bold words are special or important to do so.

5. This is a very long review. Maybe this manuscript can shorten the pages and focus on specific bryophyte groups. For example, physiology of bryophyte, climate change and bryophyte, new knowledge of bryophyte. The new perspectives of bryophyte in 21th century and so on.

6. I suggest the author to draw some pictures or tables to summarize the words in this manuscript. Because this manuscript is too wordy, try use images and statistical tables to point out the importance.

7. The roles of the bryophytes is essential for our earth and the whole ecosystem. After major revisions, this manuscript will be much better.

Title: Roles of Bryophytes in Forest Sustainability - Positive or Negative?

Reviews:

The paper contains many information about the subject sourced from various old and new literature materials on Bryophytes.

However, there is one component that is not clearly achieved. Answering the question posed in the title “Roles … Negative or Positive?”. Amid the fact that the paper asserts in various sections the keywords “negative”, and “positive”, these statements are scattered throughout the paper. Considering the length of the paper, 47 pages of almost pure textual narrative, it is difficult to grasp in a broader perspective these negative/positive roles of Bryophytes. Something must be done to make these key points clear. Perhaps add more graphical schematics on the claimed negative and positive roles? Perhaps restructure the Summary section to be clear about these negative/positive roles. In essence, the reader requires a guide in browsing through the lengthy paper. When these clear guides are added, the paper will be a great literature material on the subject.

Reviewer 3 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors The paper is too extensively written for the type of this journal, so it is not acceptable for this type of journal.
There is a lot of literature that is not well designed and the authors of this work have to summarize it in a reasonable number of pages, no more than 25 typed text.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear author, the study presented contains a literature review on the importance of biophritis. Many studies have been reviewed and the reference list contains more than 400 contributions.
The topic is interesting and useful and lends itself to being hosted in this Journal.
However, please follow some recommendations:
1) it is preferable to write the text in Times New Roman font.

2) it is preferable to put the numbered lines on the left.

3) Please, reduce the size of table 1.

4) Please, declare the methodology to carry out this review after introduction (7. Review Methods).

5) Please, reduce the word count.

6) Please, incert conclusions, limitations and practical implications.

5) Please, indicate the novelty related this study.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear author,
Thank you for preparing this review on the role of bryophytes in forest sustainability. The contribution that this study provides to the scientific literature is interesting.
Also, thanks for making the changes as directed.
However the manuscript could still be improved:
1) indicate a general research question that we wanted to answer with this review,
2) indicate the novelty linked to this review: what it has compared to other similar studies and what it offers more
3) The text in general could reduced.
4) Insert a section with a summary of the results, also grouped
5) Insert the conclusions and practical implications section
