Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

An interesting paper. The topics are treated with good methodological rigor. The results are adequately commented.

From a methodological point of view, there are no novelties, as the study consists of an application of widespread and tested techniques.
In any case, we can consider the manuscript worthy of publication.

Thank you very much for your comments! We will try to use new approach to further improve our study in near future.

Reviewer 2 Report

Nice paper overall, it merits publication after minor revisions. Some comments below:

1) A strength of the study is the length of the time series analysed (since 1967). This is a particularly appreciated effort in remote sensing that should be clarified better in the paper.

2) Figure 2. multiple scales should be replaced by multiple spatio-temporal scales, otherwise unclear.

3) Since you have used different image sources, supposedly at different minimum spatial resolution (1967 grid is coarser than 2017 acquisition image grid, I suppose), please clarify better the compatibility of all maps in order to have comparable images over the whole time series.

4) What is the novelty for other socioeconomic contexts? What is the true take-home message? Technical? Substantive? Please clarify in the conclusion.
