Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is an interesting review dealing with an up-to-date summary of the significant genetic mechanisms and associations of idiopathic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

The paper is well written and well conceived, providing a very broad description of the main genes related to this pathological condition, through an accurate review literature.

The Table 1 clearly summarize the role of the main genes involved in this condition.

To improve this manuscript, I suggest the authors to add two figures:

1) a fundus photo with a rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, to provide an image to the readers to better understand the topic of the manuscript (not all the readers of this Journal are ophthalmologists).

2) an image in which the authors try to summarize the criteria which they utilized to carry out their research through the scientific published literature. This is a main key in a review paper.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer, many thanks for your insightful comments. We have made the changes as requested.

1). A fundus photo with a with a rhegmatogenous retinal detachment including commentary has been provided as requested. (Please see attached word document)

2). An image summarising our criteria when reviewing manuscripts has also been provided as requested  (Please see attached word document).

Many Thanks

Reviewer 2 Report

The article is well written. It covers a complex topic without conclusive data and does a good job of discussing methodologies and difficulties with the interpretation of genetic data.
