Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The manuscript “Urban Fire Risk Dynamics and Mitigation Strategies in Shanghai: Integrating Spatial Analysis and Game Theory” is clear and relevant for the Special Issue “Sustainable Urbanscapes: The Role of Green Infrastructure on the Resilience of Ecosystem Services”.

The manuscript is well structured: a review of the problem area was carried out, the goal was formulated, the methods used and data sources were described, the results obtained and the conclusions drawn from them were presented.

The cited references are mostly recent publications and relevant. It doesn’t include an excessive number of self-citations.

The manuscript is scientifically sound. The methods and models used and the results obtained on its basis correspond to the study of causes and influencing factors of fire occurrences to provide comprehensive insights for urban fire prevention.

The manuscript’s results are reproducible. The spatial and temporal distribution characteristics, urban fire risk assessment system and data source used are described in sufficient detail.

Figures are appropriate.  Most of them properly show the data. The captions in Figure 9 are unreadable due to the small fontsize. Therefore, this figure is not very informative in such format.

Table is appropriate. It properly show the data. In Table 2, due to the small distance between the second and third columns in some rows, these gaps are perceived as gaps between words. For example, in the "Positive" row, these columns read as “Fractional Vegetation Positive Cover". It may be worth increasing the corresponding interval.

The data is interpreted appropriately and consistently throughout the manuscript.

In general, the manuscript gives an impression of a well-conducted scientific study. Its significance lies in the assessment of factors contributing to the occurrence and development of fire and investigation in detail the possibilities of using fire-resistant plants in urban landscaping systems to prevent and mitigate fires. There is minor comment on the design of Figure 9 and Table 2 (see above).

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Author,

The paper deals with analyzing the spatiotemporal characteristics of fire incidents in Shanghai between 2019 and 2023. Overall, the paper is well-prepared and well-structured. However, some points stated below should be revised carefuly.

1.      Line 30-31, what do you mean by “18a time scale” and “16-22a time scale”? Is the interval monthly or yearly?

2.      Line 71-72, I could not see any information about the factors contributing to the fire occurrence. Please write the primary and secondary causes of the fires depending on the literature.

3.      In the introduction, there should be a paragraph that presents detailed literature about the Remote sensing (Earth Observation) datasets used in fire monitoring and fire risk assessment, and the methods used with these data sets. There are plenty of studies based on these keywords. Since this study is relevant to these issues, it would be better to comprehensively give the literature.

4.      Please check the elevation map of the study area in Figure 1. Most places seem under mean sea level based on the legend with minus values. Is that correct? Please check.

5.      Line 135, “combines” should be “combine”.

6.      The legends of the Figures in Results are not readable. Besides, the Figures are not in high resolution. Please rearrange all Figures in high resolution with a readable-size legend.

All the best.
