Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The manuscript presents a comprehensive and well-structured research on the identification and conservation of historical plant landscapes at Longevity Hill, a significant cultural heritage site. Utilizing GIS and the WSL monoplotting tool, the authors effectively analyze the spatial and temporal changes in vegetation, providing valuable insights into the dynamics of historical gardens.

The methodology is robust and appropriately detailed, and the results are clearly presented with relevant images. I suggest emphasizing the innovative aspects of the methodology and its contributions to the field in both the introduction and discussion sections in order to highlight an innovation point.

Moreover, the conclusion would benefit from a more thorough discussion of its broader implications within the field of heritage conservation.

Overall, the study makes a meaningful contribution to the conservation strategies for historical landscapes and offers relevant recommendations for maintaining the authenticity and balance of such sites.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

The quality of the English language in the paper is generally good. However some sentences are overly complex and could be simplified to enhance readability.

I can't thank you enough for your thoughtful review and comments! Your insights have been invaluable, and I've incorporated them into the article. I've added emphasis to the innovative aspects of the methodology in both the introduction and discussion sections, and I've also included a discussion of the implications for heritage conservation in the conclusion. These changes are highlighted in gray in the manuscript.

At the same time, I've revised complex sentences throughout to enhance readability.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This is a high-quality study of environmental restoration for a key heritage place in China. It should be well received by academic scholars of restoration regarding their study topics. The case study is important given the kinds and amounts of harm done to the gardens. Other places in the world have experienced such damage and face the same difficulty of doing high-confidence analysis of restoration efforts. This study will be read and used by environmental restoration groups elsewhere around the world. Useful study as well as a strong description of the case.
