Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I have assessed this manuscript entitled " Study on Seismic Response and Parameters Influence of Transformer-Bushing with Inerter Isolation System". So, my comment about it is as follows;

The study is very interesting. The novelty aspects, scientific content, and presentation of the paper are good. The overall impression is that this manuscript can be recommended for publication in the Buildings Journal, especially considering the scope and topics of this journal.

The mechanical model of transformer-bushing with inerter isolation system (IIS) is developed by the authors.

  1. line number 11, The sentence is not correct, rephrase it "And the vibration control equations and frequency response functions is established",
  2. The paper has several typos. Authors need to proofread the paper to eliminate all of them.
  3. Contributions should be highlighted more. It should be made clear what is novel and how it addresses the limitations of prior work.
  4. A novel solution is presented but it is important to better explain the design decisions (e.g. why the solution is designed like that)
  5. Some text must be added to discuss the future work or research opportunities.
  6. Increase the DPI 300 for figure 18

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper entitled “Study on Seismic Response and Parameters Influence of Transformer-Bushing with Inerter Isolation System” presents an interesting application of a novel device to protect transformer-bushing systems from earthquake excitations. In particular, after deriving the equations of motion, the authors present the effect of the proposed solution on some key parameters. In addition, they perform a series of nonlinear time history analyses by applying different types of earthquakes to show the main advantages in adopting the Inerter Isolation System.

The paper presents a topic of scientific interest but there are some issues to be addressed before considering it for publication:

1) In the abstract, it is necessary to substitute “is established” with “are established”.

2) In the Introduction Section (page 2, line 48): it is better to substitute “N. Murota, Maria Q. Feng, Liu et al.” with “Murota et al.”

3) In the Introduction Section (page 2, line 82), the authors should correct “systematic theoreical”. In addition, the authors should revise the entire Introduction section since some verbs are put in present form and other ones in past form. Please, try to use only one of them.

4) In Section 2 (page 4), it is necessary to specify that axial displacements of the isolation base are neglected. In addition, the authors should justify the reason why they do not take into account the possibility that the base isolated rigid block may undergo rocking motion.

5) In Section 2 (page 4, line 147), please, substitute the sentence “For the traditional isolation system, such as the isolation bearing (such as LRB), is…” with the following one: “For traditional isolation systems [A, B], the isolation bearings, e.g., elastomeric [C] or wire rope isolators [D], are installed at the bottom of the transformer-bushing system”.

[D] https://doi.org/10.1016/j.engstruct.2017.02.057

6) In Section 2 (page 4, line 150), please, substitute “interer” with “inerter”.

7) In Section 2 (page 5, line 165), after “When considering the isolation bearings installed”, add the following sentence: “, as in the case of traditional base-isolated buildings [E] or rigid blocks [F], the M, C, K, …”

8) In Section 3 (page 7, line 232), substitute “is analyze” with “is analyzed”. In addition, at page 8 (line 246), substitute “If continue to increase” with “If it continues to increase”.

9) In Figure 18, the expression “Energy dissipation curves” does not have any sense. Please, define them “Hysteresis loops”.

10) Authors should mention the possibility of adopting more sophisticated hysteretic models in the proposed isolation system, instead of using a linear elastic spring put in parallel to a linear dashpot.
