Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article addresses an important and very interesting topic of the study on parameters influence and optimal design of tuned inerter damper for seismic response mitigation, which is appreciated. The study includes of the theoretical research. In this paper the motion control equations of the single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system with typical inerter damper, the tuned inerter damper (TID), were analysed. The Reviewer has some concerns regarding the introduction, results, conclusions and references. In addition, the English language is good but some sentence should be more clear (too long). Please check the text of Native Speaker. In opinion of Reviewer this paper should be subjected to major revision.

Other comments:

  1. Please explain more clearly what differences are between your research and previous research cited in the text (more detailed)? In addition, please explain more clearly what is novelty of your research?
  2. Generally, the introduction is really wide but in opinion of Reviewer should be enriched with papers on the topic of practical damping isolation (especially as seismic damping layer) or practical aspect in structure under seismic excitations e.g.:
  • https://doi.org/10.1002/eqe.3422
  1. In the discussion, please compare your results with similar research, which were cited in the text. In addition, please explain the tendency and what have impact of your research.
  2. Why you analysed only 4 seismic records? What is the reason? Why you using actually these records?
  3. All scale with seismic results should be the same (Figure 9, 10, 11) and please improve these figures. In addition, some lines on the figures are cut off.
  4. Line 316, 338 (El Centro) please improve it.
  5. What are the assumptions to theoretical research? How is validation this result?
  6. Please improve the conclusions, because of in current version are poor, simple and obvious. Please show the most important tendency/mechanism of your research using e.g. bullets.
  7. What is the next step of your research? Please add.
  8. References should be improved. Please add a few papers about similar research (look on the point 2) and please add some international papers (not only Researchers from China).
  9. This is good journal of your research? The Reviewer cannot see paper from Buildings Journal.
  10. Please check all paper with the template of this Journal (References)

And the end I hope that my comments will be helpful for the authors.

Reviewer 2 Report

The proposed paper hs merit and the cientific contribution is relevant. Minor revisions on text and figure captions must be made.

Author Response

Dear reviewer!

Your comments on the thesis “Study on Parameters Influence and Optimal Design of Tuned Inerter Damper for Seismic Response Mitigation” has been received. Thanks for the hard work of the experts for reviewing and revision of this paper. The authors have revised some sentences and Figures in the full text.

See the revised manuscript 2  for details, and the content is green in the resubmission.

Reviewer 3 Report

The research on dampers is critical in today's world to ensure that buildings resist earthquakes; thus, the objective of the research is recognised. However, a few points should be added to improve the article's quality. The abstract appears to be quite lengthy; consider eliminating unnecessary words and sticking to a maximum of 200 to 250 words. While the length of the introduction section is acceptable, adequate information regarding SDOF and TID is missing. Kindly include a few points regarding these topics as they are critical to this research. All 30 references have been cited in the introduction section; could you please ensure that the article does not require any additional references? In line 124, the article mentions equation 1, but there is no reference to the equation. Kindly justify the equation. While figure 1 appears to be quite clear, it would be ideal if you added some colours to the figure to further enhance the image. What is the complete form of FRF? Kindly provide a detailed description of the software used to conduct the simulation along with appropriate references. You mentioned a few points in conclusion with a comparison of this technique to another technique, which is fine, but adding a separate session for comparative study makes the article even better. Consider including a future scope and a few recommendations for this research that may assist other readers in adopting or improving this technique.
