TITLE: Selection strategy of vibration feature target under centrifugal pumps cavitation

GENERAL COMMENTS

The subject of this paper is interesting and that should be of interest to Applied Sciences mdpi readers. I think the authors have tried to put their findings into context. In my honest opinion, this paper has scientific soundness, and it is also concise and creative.

The major point they should consider is the following:

MAJOR POINT

[line 184] How was performed the calibration of the sensor? Please, explain it.

MINOR COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS

[line 88] This method uses slope…English language.

[line 100] Please, you should add a reference for Shannon.

[line 198] Analyses and calculate…English language.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND STYLE

Moderate English changes required.

OVERALL RECOMMENDATION

Accept after minor revision.

1Q: How was performed the calibration of the sensor? Please, explain it. [Line 184]

A: Thanks for your question. The sensor was calibrated by the manufacturer. Default calibration value such as DC offset and sensitivity were accessed from the manufacturer’s manual. The measuring system can be automatically reset to zero after the input of the default value.

2Q: This method uses slope…English language. [Line 88]

A: Thanks for your carefully check, this grammar error has been revised in line 89.

3Q: Please, you should add a reference for Shannon. [Line 100]

A: Thanks for your advice,we added the relative reference behind.

4Q: Analyses and calculate…English language. [Line 198]

A: Thanks for your carefully check. The title is revised to “Analysis and methodology”.

The authors have studied the correlation between cavitation and vibration in a centrifugal pump. They employed the grey slope correlation method in order to investigate the relevance between NPSH and the vibration signal. Fifteen features have been considered scaled by using the entropy weight method. The results shows that cavitation can be monitored by using as main feature the kurtosis factor.

I think that the aim of the paper is interesting but the work is completely lacking of a physical description of cavitation, see for example the introduction of "A, Cavitation inception of a van der Waals fluid at a sack-wall obstacle Physics of Fluids 27, 123307 (2015), doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4937595".  In this respect, adding appropriate references can be useful.

Other points that should be considered are the following:

- A physical description of the relation between cavitation and vibration should be given.

- The mathematical results should be explained from a physical point of view, for example why the kurtosis factor seems to be the most important one.

_ Finally, another important point is to describe how cavitation is detected.

I think that before recommending publication the authors have to improve the previous points.

Reviewer 3 Report

The article deals with the detection of cavitation in centrifugal pumps using vibration sensors and machine learning. The topic is of great importance in order to improve safety and efficiency of pumps. However, the article requires an extensive editing of english language. In particular sections 3 and 4 are really hard to follow and would significantly improve when revised by a native speaker. Also the figure quality can be improved.

Author Response

Thanks for your advice. We have seek the native speaker to polish our manuscript. As for the figure, In order to enable widely readers can accept our ideas, we have to present objective and mass data in this way.
