Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript describing the optical activity enhancement of chiral polymer PFBT in SU-8 photoresist. The optical activity enhancement itself is already reported in previous paper (reference 24). The new point of this manuscript is making smooth and clear patterning of film by improved preparation methods. And they clear that the enhancement of CD still observed in this clear film without residue.

The experimental procedure and results seem reasonable and the observed enhancement of CD is interesting. However, the authors did not care about the anisotropy of CD spectrum at al. In the measurement of CD spectrum, linear dichroism and linear birefringence frequently make a huge artifact especially in the polymer film or crystal sample.

I strongly worried about so many researches about CD spectrum of films were performed without attention for the optical anisotropy. The author should be measure linear dichroism or at least measure CD spectra with different orientation of film to confirm that obtained spectrum is a true circular dichroism or contain other optical anisotropy.

Author Response

We thank to the reviewer for the encouraging evaluation of our paper and the comment. As the reviewer mentioned, we are understanding linear dichroism and birefringence can make an artifact on the polymer film. We measured the film by CD spectrometer with different orientation and the figure below shows the measured result.

As shown in Additional Figure, remeasured values were very similar compared to the original values. While B-5 shows -789mdeg, remeasured B-5 shows -825mdeg which is slightly increased (marked as C-2) and we are confident that obtained spectrum is a true circular dichroism.

Reviewer 2 Report

The work in this manuscript clearly outlines the work performed to develop a chiral polymer film. The chirality of the polymer film is clearly demonstrated using UV absorption spectroscopy and circular dichroism. The manuscript is well written. Scale bars need to be added to Figure 2c and Figure 2D, it is not clear what the scale of these images are. Once this figure has been fixed I can recommend for publication.
