Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper entitled “The influence of laboratory scanner versus intra-oral scanner on determining the implant axis by using three different scan abutments” is an vitro study that compare the implant axis by using laboratory scanner versus intra-oral scanner with three different scan abutments.

This paper could be of interest for the readers but in my opinion some corrections are necessary before it can be considered valid for publication.

INTRODUCTION

Overall well  structured  thought quite generic. The specific problem of the implant axis should be addressed in more detail rather than discussing the issue of digital scans in dentistry in a generic way.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

All aspects relating to the scientific methodology used were described in a clear and exhaustive manner.

The design of the study, the methods and types of outcomes measured, the type of statistical analysis carried out for the interpretation of the data is correct and clearly reported.

The iconography is adequate as well as the footnotes of the figures clearly describe the characteristics of the image to which they refer.

decided to measure implant axis of a dental implant  in place of tooth 3.5.

Why has been used only one intra-oral scanner?

The authors should explain why they have been compared two scanners that use different technologies; Omnicam intra oral scanner uses a triangulation method while the 3shape laboratory scanner uses a confocal method.

RESULTS

The results obtained in the study are reported too descriptively, it would be more appropriate for a scientific publication to report the results in tabular format.

DISCUSSION

The discussion of the results is on the whole well articulated ; the comparison with other studies in the literature is exhaustive.

The limits of the scientific methodology used in the study should be analyzed in more detail way and it must be underlined the consequences of these limits on the results of this study.

CONCLUSION

They are presented concisely but effectively and allow the reader to clearly understand the study results
