Bibliometric Analysis of Research on Diesel Pollution in Antarctica and a Review on Remediation Techniques
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The review is focusing on Diesel pollution in Antarctic region; it is splitted in a bibliographic analysis on the topic and remediation techniques applied. The central topic of the paper is very interesting, however this dual composition give not enough emphasis to each part.
I strongly recommend to focus on remediation techniques, collecting more information regarding the approached used, the limitations of this particular region, if those reported are lab scale or field studies. I would avoid general information regarding bioremediation such as for example those reported in figure 3.

Answer:
Figure 3 on the classification of bioremediation was removed and more bioremediation techniques with their case studies were added to emphasise on the narrative review. The approach, feasibility and limitation of these techniques were also described, along with their prospective innovation. Page 13-16Author Response File: Author Response.docx
Reviewer 2 Report
The review entitled “Bibliometric analysis of research on diesel pollution in Antarctica and a review on remediation techniques”, authors are Z.S. Lim, R.R. Wong, C.-Y. Wong, A. Zulkharnain, N.A. Shaharuddin, and S.A. Ahmad, is interesting for reading and devotes to the actual topic of hydrocarbon contamination of the environment and its influence on fragile ecosystems, such as Antarctica sites. The paper is well organized, logical, and a current state for diesel fuel contamination and the methods used to solve this problem are comprehensively described.
A minor revision
Table 1 – it is recommended to give all volumes of spilled diesel fuel in same units, litres, m3, or tons, to easily compare different spill accidents with each other.
Summary. Overall recommendation: Accept after minor revision.

A minor revision: Table 1 – it is recommended to give all volumes of spilled diesel fuel in same units, litres, m3, or tons, to easily compare different spill accidents with each other.
Summary: Overall recommendation: Accept after minor revision. Answer: The volume of spilled fuel oil is standardized into litres as recommended. However, the conversion of weight (tons, kg) to volume (litres, m3) is regrettably not performed. The type of oil spilled in some incidents was not identified in the original papers. The conversion may be highly deviated as the density of different type of oils can range from 847 to 973 kg/m3. Hence it cannot accurately represent the volume of oil spilled. In this case, I would refer to the original measurement system used in the articles. Page 5.Author Response File: Author Response.docx
Reviewer 3 Report
In general, the paper is well written, fluent and easy to read. Also the arguments expressed in the intentions of the work are well treated, not too deep, but, as the work itself proposed, authors are trying to give an overview of what has been done by the scientific community from 1980 to 2019.
In general, in my opinion, it is a work that makes a good contribution to the scientific community as it contains the set of information in the field of diesel pollution in Antarctica and gives a complete view of what has been done to date, highlighting the gaps that still need to be filled.
Just a few notes
Lines are quite indicatively because the paper was in the journal format without lines refer.
Line 36 "Due to the rich composition of sewage, the liquid must not be directly discharged into the sea, but may only be discharged into marine environment that are favorable for initial dilution and rapid dispersal." It would be good to add a bibliography for this sentence.
Line 138 "Two major clusters were illustrated with distinct colors (red and green), showing environmental monitoring and remediation mechanisms as central research themes." Which color indicates one and which the other, please clarify it. It would be good to add it also in the caption of figure 2.

Comment 1:

Answer: Lines have been added.
Comment 2:
Line 36 "Due to the rich composition of sewage, the liquid must not be directly discharged into the sea, but may only be discharged into marine environment that are favorable for initial dilution and rapid dispersal." It would be good to add a bibliography for this sentence.
Answer: Statement was made in reference to the Environment Protocol of The Antarctic Treaty Secretariat from their official website. Bibliography was added as recommended to support the credibility of the statement. Page 3.

Line 138 "Two major clusters were illustrated with distinct colors (red and green), showing environmental monitoring and remediation mechanisms as central research themes." Which color indicates one and which the other, please clarify it. It would be good to add it also in the caption of figure 2.
Answer: Brief description of the figure was added in both the caption and in paragraph. A clearer sentence structure was used to indicate the research themes of red cluster as environmental monitoring whereas green cluster as remediation mechanisms. Page 10-11.
