Dear Authors:

The main aim of this paper is to optimize the parameters of shutters through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. A detailed discussion of the sensitivity of side wing aerodynamic efficiency to shutters’ and analysis has been illustrated (in Section 4) without providing any formula or descriptive function for the sensitivity. similarly for the modeling part in the same section. 

Meanwhile, the applied optimization procedure needs to be clarified; what is the method and the applied optimization algorithm? Is there any flowchart for the applied optimization procedure? Or is it just by selecting suitable values according to the obtained results through simulation procedure? State clearly the objectives of the optimization problem, and what is the cost function (or performance index) for selecting the best (optimum value)? This important issue needs to be theoretically clarified in your paper. In addition, there are some comments as follows:

1- The title is better to be shortened;' Research of' in the beginning of the title is better to be omitted.

2- In your citation, you refer to chapters of a reference, as in page 4-line 134, page 9- line 276, 282. Try to improve the citation and provide the no. of the reference instead, you can provide the details with the reference in the references list.

3- Reference 10, can not be found.  Make sure that all the cited references can be reached.

4- Figure 1 is not mentioned in the text of the paper. 

5- On page 7, after line 198, the equation number must be corrected to (2).

6- In Section 4.4, you mentioned 'The 249 number of convergence steps exceeds 2500 steps'. It's unclear how the simulation is applied!  

7- In Section 5, line 268, 'the evaluation is mainly based on the optimization objectives of side wing efficiency indexes, such as side wing lift and side wing drag.' This phrase shows that side wing lift and side wing drag are utilized as indexes in the optimization operation. 

formulate the optimization problem in a standard academic style, using necessary equations.

8- page 10, line 298, explain why the airfoil (BABIC) is selected in the simulation as a representative of flat airfoil.

In the current study, the authors investigated numerically the effect of the fairing structure for FSAE race car on the wing aerodynamic efficiency using the commercial code. They optimized the geometrical parameters of flat fairing airfoil design. This study is within the journal's scope, but I would suggest referring to the questions and comments below to make improvements and resubmit:

1-      The authors should improve the readability in Figures 5, 8, and 20, especially for units and scales.

2-      The literature review part should be expanded with similar published papers.

3-      In line 203, Please explain why is standard k–ω turbulence model the best choice and why is realizable k–ε two-layer turbulence model selected?

4-      Which CFD code did you use for the simulations? Explain the models, algorithms, etc. used in the simulations in detail.

5-      The authors should indicate the total number of cells in grid sensitivity analysis section.

6-      The study has lack experimental validation. It is better to include the validation to increase the reliability of the study.

7-      Please explain the optimization methods (multivariate Gaussian regression model, quadratic support vector machine, etc.) in “material and methods section”. All models and materials used in the study should be explained in the manuscript.

 

8-      Please explain Figures 1, 17, and 18 in the manuscript.
