Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Very nice contribution. I´d like to adress some points:

Fig . 7 roof slab - its not a slab

section 4.2 is the last sentence good? The table 3 seams that the higher number the higher the load. So the typhoon was either not so huge as the standard based or the standard is so overestimated. But with the standard values, it is necessary to be on the safe side.  This should be probably more clarified.

Fig. 11 - have you got an idea how will be the results if the screw was used in the lower wave of the cladding? in Europe, many producers of the metal roofs prefers this  solution instead the positions which was used in your research.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript presents a proposal for a method to estimate wind-induced fatigue of metal roof claddings under typhoons through numerical and experimental simulations. The topic is worthy of research and the work developed provides a comprehensive view and analysis of the phenomena studied. The research methodology is generally suitable, and the used methods are relatively well presented. The results are relevant, but not as widely discussed and remarked in Conclusion. The manuscript is generally well structured and written. Specific comments to address are provided below.

1. Introduction: The general problem related to typhoon occurrence and damages to buildings could be a bit more addressed and illustrated, e.g., stats and pictures of damaged buildings.

2. Introduction: The state-of-the-art review in the 2nd paragraph is very comprehensive, but better structuring of the reporting is desirable and avoiding putting it in just one paragraph.

3. Section 2: Figure 1 is not referred to in the text. The symbol ni is not defined in Equation (3). This section is a little short when compared to the other sections. The reported methods must be explained in more detail.

4. Section 4: The results in Figures 7 and 8 are not commented on in the text. The stress distribution in Figure 7 is for a particular case. It would be interesting to illustrate how it changes during the loading and for different purlin distances.

5. Subsection 4.2: Sentence ‘The fatigue damage accumulation of the roof claddings was counted in combination with the material S–N curve, Goodman formula, and Miner’s linear damage accumulation rule’ is redundant with another one in the same paragraph.

6. Section 5: The experimental setup and loading sequence (stages and rounds) can be better illustrated in an additional figure.

7. Table 4 and text: The scale for the damage estimation is not so easy to understand. Please improve.

8. Paragraph before Figure 12: Reference to Figure 11(b) is wrong, as it refers to Figure 12(b).

9. Conclusion needs an introductory note and the findings in (2) and (3) must be specifically quantified.

10. The following reference should be included: Henderson et al. (2010) Wind Induced Fatigue of Metal Roof Cladding during Severe Tropical Cyclones. Structures Congress 2010; as well as more recent papers (from 2020), if possible.
