Analysis of Expansion Characteristics According to Deterioration Conditions for Superabsorbent Polymer Content of a Polyurethane Waterproof Material with Water Expansion Properties
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This work is a study of the combination of superabsorbent polymer with polyurethane as water expendable materials. The topic is interesting, and the work is well designed and performed. However, the presentation is like a technical report especially the cited references are mostly internal reports and not the common scientific literature. Thus, the authors should extensively revise their work dividing in the usual part (e.g. experimental, results and discussion) and mostly to reconsider their references. Especially superabsorbent polymers and waterproof polyurethenes are broadly studied topics and there are plenty of relative references that can be included.

The manuscript deals with the materials which are unknown how they were obtained, from what specific raw materials. In the present form it cannot be regarded as a scientific work. It is necessary to complete it. Firstly, the synthesis of both a supersorbent polymer and water-expandable polyurethane should be described. Secondly, what exactly isocyante was used (whether it was the 2,4-TDI, 2,6-TDI isomer or a mixture of these isomers), what are the structures of polyether polyol and antioxidant? Producers of raw materials are also unknown.

We have corrected and supplemented your Following Points.
Here are the fixes:
- Firstly, the synthesis of both a supersorbent polymer and water-expandable polyurethane should be described.
-> The main ingredient(A-side) of water-expandable polyurethane is formulated by mixing powdered superabsorbent polymer and other raw materials.
- What exactly isocyante was used (whether it was the 2,4-TDI, 2,6-TDI isomer or a mixture of these isomers), what are the structures of polyether polyol and antioxidant? Producers of raw materials are also unknown.
-> We are presented information on the types, structures and manufacturers of isocyante, polyether polyol, and antioxidant on table 2. (page 4)
Isocyanye’s Structures : Mixture (2,4-TDI : 2,6-TDI = 8 : 2)

Polyether polyol’s structures : R-(O-CH2-CH)n-OH
Antioxidant’s Structures : Tetrakis methane and Octadecyl-3- propionate

Title: Analysis of Expansion Characteristics according to Deterioration Conditions for Superabsorbent Polymer Content of a Poly urethane Waterproof Material with Water Expansion Properties
In this study, authors have analysed how the swelling rate according to the mixing ratio of the super-absorbent polymer used in water-expandable polyurethane changes depending on the deterioration conditions and sought to propose the optimal mixing ratio of superabsorbent polymers that enables the water-expandable polyurethane waterproofing material to 104 exhibit and sustain its waterproofing performance in various deterioration environments.
Well structured, written and organised
Tables and Figures are adequate
The authors did stick to the aim of the work
Discussions are good, literature required is adequate
Figures are HR and with clarity
Data based conclusions
Fig 13 clarity is missing, change it for better visuality
Table 8 and Fig 14 – make it to one page (journals work)
Grammar can be improved.
The waterproofing performance of the currently used 474 water-expandable polyurethane for a certain crack area was evaluated according to the 475 deterioration conditions.
Accept this with minor revisions

Round 2
Reviewer 1 Report
The authors have tried to improve the format of their work, but the literature part is mainly based on Korean PhD and Master Theses while the scientific peer reviewed references are very limited so the final decision for acceptance relies on the editor.
Author Response
Thanks for your detailed review.
We did an extensive search for references related to our study, Superabsorbent Polymer Content of a Polyurethane Waterproof Material with Water Expansion Properties.
Although many studies related to superabsorbent polymers were searched, there was a limit to the data search for polyurethane coating waterproofing materials using them.
But we were able to supplement the Manuscript references with your first review. Thanks again to you.
