Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors has done great job by employing  crane safety assessment method based on the cloud model  and Improved the Combination Weighting
Method of Game Theory (ICWGT). The model formulation are well presented.

However, the authors should on the following:

  1. The introduction should be improved is too short
  2. The authors should review standard literature at list 5 to be added to the introduction section
  3. The authors should range the conclusion properly
  4. General check of English Language is needed

Author Response

Response to Reviewer 1 Comments

Point 1: The introduction should be improved is too short.

Response 1: Many thanks for the suggestion. Indeed, we did not have enough introduction in the original manuscript. Therefore, we have revised and added some summaries to this manuscript. The changes we made to the manuscript are shown specifically in the second and fifth paragraphs of the introduction of the manuscript.

In the second paragraph we enriched the current status of the research and introduced the research results in the field of crane safety evaluation in recent years.

In the fifth paragraph we elaborate and summarize the problems encountered in the current related research and explain the necessity of this research proposal.

Point 2: The authors should review standard literature at least 5 to be added to the introduction section.

Response 2: We gratefully thanks for the precious time the reviewer spent making constructive remarks. Our standard literature citations in the original manuscript were insufficient. Therefore, we have revised and added some standard literature to this manuscript. The following is the standard literature that we reviewed and added to the introduction section of this manuscript to support this study.

Point 3: The authors should range the conclusion properly.

Response 3: We sincerely appreciate your careful reading of our manuscript and your comments. Indeed, We did not give the range of evaluation levels very clearly in the conclusion section of the original manuscript. Therefore, we have given the corresponding assessment scope and elaborated it in more detail in this manuscript.

We have modified the first and second paragraphs in 4.1. Discussion .In the first paragraph, we give the basis for judging the safety assessment level of each subsystem of the crane, and give the range of the corresponding safety level. In the second paragraph, we give how to obtain the fuzzy relationship matrix of the whole crane system and the basis for judging the safety assessment level, and the range of the corresponding safety level is given.

Point 4: General check of English Language is needed.

Response 4: Many thanks for the suggestion. It is true that some of English Language in the original manuscript is not very good. Therefore, we have made some textual part improvements in this manuscript.

Reviewer 2 Report

The work entitled: Research on the crane safety assessment method based on the cloud model and ICWGT presents, in the reviewer's opinion, a very well structured and easy to understand work.

The authors use a methodology based on the cloud model and ICWGT to optimize the safety of a shipyard portal crane. Although the methodology already existed and the contribution is to use it in this type of study, the reviewer considers that the work presents a significant contribution for the readers of Applied Sciences. In its current version, I consider that the paper has sufficient quality to be published.

Reviewer 3 Report

The aim of the paper:

In this study, a new crane safety assessment method is obtained by combining ICWGT with cloud model theory.

Its main contributions:

In calculating the combination optimized weight cloud of the crane metal structure based on the sample values, the game theory idea is applied to optimize the combination coefficients, which makes the allocation of subjective and objective weight clouds more reasonable. And in the synthesis calculations, the synthesis algorithm is improved by using fine-tuned synthesis operator. The method not only takes expert experience and now available sample information into account, but also overcomes the influence of human subjective factors and fluctuation of data information in weight assignment.

Strengths:

1-The assessment results match with the engineering reality. The validation result proves the accuracy of the method and has theoretical reference value for the comprehensive assessment study of crane safety level.

2-Detailed materials and methods and results explanations

Weaknesses:

1-Some references are older than 5 years, for example reference 24 and reference 25, which are essentials for the research study.

2-Introduction section should be split into introduction section and previous work section

3-Section 4 discussion and conclusion should be discussion, conclusion and further work, A further work section should be added.

4-A comparison between this method and other known methods is needed.

5-Authors did not give any links to the software and/or data they used so their results can be repeated and checked

Response to Reviewer 3 Comments

Point 1: Some references are older than 5 years, for example reference 24 and reference 25, which are essentials for the research study.

Response 1: Many thanks for the suggestion. Indeed, we have several references in the original manuscript that are more than 5 years old, some of which are intended to provide background on the study, while another part of the references on the current status of the study do need to be updated.. Therefore, we have revised this part of the references in this manuscript. We retained references on the background of the study, removed some obsolete references, such as reference 24 and reference 25, and added new references of relevant studies. The following are the references.

Point 2: Introduction section should be split into introduction section and previous work section.

Response 2: We gratefully thanks for the precious time the reviewer spent making constructive remarks. We have a hierarchical discussion in the introduction section of the original manuscript, but it is not very clear and could be improved. Therefore, we have revised the introduction section in this manuscript.

The contents of paragraphs 1 to 5 in Introduction are the background of the research and the development of crane-related research. The content of paragraph 6 is the previous work in the field of crane safety evaluation. The content of paragraph 7 is the research work done in this manuscript.

Point 3: Section 4 discussion and conclusion should be discussion, conclusion and further work, A further work section should be added.

Response 3: We sincerely appreciate your careful reading of our manuscript and your comments. Indeed, we did not give further work about the study in the conclusion of Part 4 in the original manuscript. Therefore, we have added this part in this manuscript. The following is the future work of this manuscript on page 18.

This crane safety assessment method is based on the central limit theorem and the universality of the cloud model. The normal cloud model is selected as the basis to improve the commentary set, fuzzy relationship matrix, combination weighting method and fuzzy synthesis algorithm. However, how to choose different cloud models for different state indicators needs to be further explored. Moreover, the set of risk factors for crane operation used in this study is derived from the analysis of crane safety issues and investigation of crane-related studies, but this will be affected by the development of crane-related technologies. With the gradual quantification of qualitative indicators, the set of crane-related risk factors needs to be supplemented and improved.

Point 4: A comparison between this method and other known methods is needed.

Response 4: Sincerely grateful for your kind tips. We have given a comparison with other evaluation methods in the original manuscript, but the results of the comparison are not particularly clear. Therefore, we have added this part in this manuscript.

The results obtained by comparing this method specifically with other known methods are shown in Table 9 in the manuscript.

Point 5: Authors did not give any links to the software and/or data they used so their results can be repeated and checked.

Response 5: Many thanks for the suggestion. We gave the data needed to calculate the results in the original manuscript, as shown in Tables 2, 3, and 4, but really did not give the software we used. Therefore, we have added it in this paper to help others repeat and check our results. In the first paragraph of the results section, we specify the programming language and software we used to use the method. Here are the specific improvements in this manuscript on page 11.

MATLAB will be used to implement the computational processing of the data and the construction of the cloud model and Origin will be used to present the data results in the form of cloud images.
