Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper presents the influence of the stiffness pile foundations and subsoil interaction on the reinforced concrete slender columns of single-story frames.

The paper written in high-level English is well structured. The graphs, tables, and figures presented clearly illustrate the problem solved appropriately.

The contemporary theme follows up the research done in recent years, which is listed in the references.

The topic of the paper corresponds to the theme of the special issue.

I recommend accepting the paper for publication after a minor revision.

Reviewer 2 Report

The results of “Impact of pile foundation stiffness on structural design of reinforced concrete columns” are of potential interest. The introduction section provides sufficient background of past literatures. The conclusions are supported by the results. All the references are related to this research and also sufficient. However, the following corrections are to be carried out before the acceptance of the Manuscript.

1. The title didn’t reflect properly about the studies.

2. Abstract: Provided the result of your study.

3. Strengthen the abstract.

4. Are the  examples 1 &2 need to presented in the manuscript? Or result of the sum alone enough?

5. Can you present the  examples in the annexure?

6. Many references are found very old. Cite more recent refrences.

7. Conclusion needs to be strengthened.

8. What this study recommend to the research society?

9. Can include discussion section in the manuscript

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper “Impact of pile foundation stiffness on structural design of reinforced concrete columns” reports a work about the influence of the foundation behaviour on the structural performance of reinforced slender concrete columns.  In particular, the influence of the foundation on piles in multi-layered subsoil is analysed. Although the paper is interesting, it is opinion of this reviewer that some aspects can be improved before publication in Applied Sciences Journal:

ABSTRACT:

- should be revised by deleting repetitions such as those present in lines 12-13. Furthermore, the original aspects of the research work should be highlighted.

1. INTRODUCTION

- the introduction should be implemented considering some examples as 10.1504/IJMRI.2020.104846, 10.1016/j.engstruct.2019.109873

4. EXAMPLES

- Figure 7: delete the “)” in the definition of Lp

- Table 1: add more detail on the soil layers mechanical characteristics as the unit weight, cohesion, friction angle, ecc.

- as reported in lines 261-265 is a repetition of the lines 256-260.

5. CONCLUSIONS

- this Section must be significantly improved highlighting the original aspects of the work, the limit of the examples discussed in the text.

A significant improvement of the English is required.
