Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript is well written in general. The methodology is described comprehensively and extensive results are used to validate the strength of proposed work. There are only some minor comments for the authors:

1. Lines 30 to 38 - Please rephrase this paragraph in passive form because the way the authors cited the works are not done properly.

2. Problem statements and research gaps that motivated current study are not clear and should be elaborated.

3. Please describe the technical contributions of current work.

4. How the proposed work is different with those published works?

5. Why YOLO v5 is used to detect the ROI instead of other more advance YOLO family?

6. Please describe the limitations of current study in depth based on the results obtained.

7. What are the future works that can be extended from current study?

Quality of English Language is acceptable for me in general. Manuscript is well written. There are no obvious typos and grammatical error are found.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article proposes the use YOLOv5 and OMD-ViBe algorithm to detect the location of leakage and the leakage rate.  In general, the article is well written, and the topic is worth investigating. However, to improve the overall quality of the article, the authors must address and incorporate the following comments in the revised manuscript.

1.       Discuss the possible required modifications to the proposed framework if the type and size of the pipes are changed.

2.       The abstract appears as standalone representative for the article, the authors should avoid using abbreviations in the abstract such as ROI, PWC, etc.

3.       Add a quantitative description of the time taken by a pretrained model for the detection and quantification of leakage in the pipes.

4.       The statement "But the detection could be more accurate due to limited sensor sensing capability." seems confusing in the context of discussion. Check and rectify if needed.

5.       The authors mentioned that "This paper’s training set is a self-made 1000 pictures and labels." I recommend adding the details of those images and showing few representative images and labels to make the proposed work reproducible by interested readership.

6.       One line 309, the word "tar" seems to be "target" check and correct.

7.       The authors mentioned that "The leakage pipe diameter of the metal hose used was 25A..." what does 25A means for diameter?

8.       Describe and discuss the implementation of the proposed approach for the target industries and its economical advantages the leakage detection from pressure drop and visual inspection by human.

The English language is fine, Minor editing of English language and spelling check may be required.
