The aim of the paper was to investigate the component separation and structure characterization of medium-low temperature coal tar. The manuscript is well constructed and the idea of the work seems to be very
interesting. The results are clearly presented, and the conclusions are consistent with the results obtained. I believe that the manuscript can be accepted in current form.

Currently, the development of processing technology of MLCT is limited by an insufficient  understanding of its chemical composition and structure. Therefore, quantitative analysis of the molecular composition of MLCT are required.

From my point of view, the idea and objective of the manuscript is good. The article is well structured.

However, some suggestions are recommended for the further improvement of the manuscript:

- Minor spell check is advised, such as in lines 106, 121, 160, 180, 243, 253,…

- A reference is needed in line 182 to justify the results.

- More information about the sample is required.

- Although a complete state of the art has been carried out in the introduction section, some references to justify the similar results found by other authors or to support the results and conclusions shown in this paper are recommended.
