The effect of pharmaceutical excipients for applying to spray-dried omega-3 powder.
The authors presented a detailed study of various formulation conditions to optimise a system that would be useful for the elaboration of a spray dry omega-3 powder.
The paper is suitable for publication if the authors would like to implement the following remarks:
1/ the figures captions and table titles are not very explicit.
2/ table 1 could be replaced by a sentence
3/ it is not clear to the reader whether the choice of P18-8 (line 230) was dictated solely on the basis of the SEM images. It would be interesting to see a more consistent analysis of all the data presented for all the formulations (including SEM) and decide which one is best on the ground of specified criteria.
4/ It wold be also interesting to add an element about the cost of the preferred formulation as g-CD might represent a financial hurdle on the road to commercialisation.

Omega-3 fatty acid are important for helping smooth metabolism of cells in human body. However, oxidation of fatty acids leads to the formation of chemical compounds with a very unpleasant odor. That is why this scent often deters from using them as ingredients of medicines. Therefore, new solutions are constantly being sought in the formulation of nutraceuticals in order to avoid fishy smell. The authors in this manuscript have presented that transformation of omega-3 fatty acid into solid state using binder and surfactant by spray-drying could be successful. The results support the possibility of application of their spray-dried omega-3 powder as a new ingredient for new functional foods. It is an interesting achievement of this research and worth publishing in this journal.
