The Updated Sections of Systems

Department of Systems and Information Engineering, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA 22904, USA
Our journal Systems (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/systems) [1] has been developing cutting-edge and thought-provoking research. With the development of systems theory in practice, Systems plans to adjust the sections according to the changes in the research community. A new section will be named “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Systems Engineering”. Systems engineering is a disciplined approach to designing and creating complex systems, which involves the integration of different components to function effectively. Combining artificial intelligence and digital technologies with systems engineering can result in more efficient and optimized systems. AI can enhance the decision-making process and automate tasks, while digital technologies can improve the system’s connectivity and data analysis capabilities. By integrating these technologies with systems engineering principles, organizations can create more innovative and intelligent systems capable of adapting to changing requirements and maximizing performance.
For the current sections, the “Systems Design” section will be combined into the new section. “Systems Practice in Social Science” and “Systems Practice in Natural Science” will be combined into the “Systems Practice in Social Science” section. “Systems Engineering”, “Systems Practice in Engineering”, and “Project Management” will be combined into the section entitled “Systems Engineering”. “Complex Systems” and “Cybernetics” will be combined into one as “Complex Systems and Cybernetics”. Lastly, “Systems Theory and Methodology” and “Supply Chain Management” are kept unchanged. The updated sections in the Systems journal include the following:
  • Systems Theory and Methodology;
  • Artificial Intelligence and Digital Systems Engineering;
  • Systems Practice in Social Science;
  • Systems Engineering;
  • Supply Chain Management;
  • Complex Systems and Cybernetics.
With this update, we would like to encourage more submissions in the fields mentioned and continue the progress of the journal in the right direction.
