Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this paper, the authors present key-based stream cipher for real-time IoT applications. The technical details are clearly presented and easy to follow. The authors have already proved the soundness of the design. But many points should be improved:

1.       Almost all references are out-of-date. The authors should review the newer proposals.

2.       What are the main contributions of the proposal? How does it contribute to the body of knowledge?

3.       The authors should compare the experimental results with the newer references to prove the proposal's effectiveness.

4.       English could be improved.

5.     All the figures and tables should be centered.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper  designed a key-based multi-mode clock-controlled stream cipher for real time secure communications of Internet of things (IoT). To enhance the security strength of stream cipher, the paper stream cipher will be equipped with multi-mode depending on the key. However, the authors should be considered and addressed the following concerns.

In line 43-48, rewrite the list of contributions using points.

The sort of presentation the references is not accurate and order.

In related work part, author need to highlight the limitation and strength for recent relevant studies.

In the proposed scheme part, how this study outperforms others?

In result, please provide figures?

In order to proof the contribution of the paper, the proposal should be compared with recent works

In the Conclusion part, the both limitations and future work are missing.

How the work is different from Real-time secure communication for Smart City in high-speed Big Data environment.and Real time performance analysis of secure IoT protocols for microgrid communication

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

1.       Avoid too many white spaces in the paper. For example, bottom page 5, bottom page 11, and page 21: there is a big gap of white space between Figure 12 and the 5.2 sub-section.

2.       Avoid such things: on pages 8-9, the caption of table 3 is on page 8, but the body of table 3 is on page 9. Please keep the whole table or figure on the same page. The same thing happened with Figure 7 on pages 10-11.
