Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This study deals with an acoustic perceptual test performed on the basis of adaptive matrix tests, which represent a modern and reliable tool that can be used not only in perceptual phonetics, but also for detecting problems related to hearing.

Usefulness of adaptive matrix tests is not clear to me.  can you add more references on adaptive matrix tests?

I cannot see scientific novelties of this paper clearly.

Slovak adaptive matrix test in section 2 is not impressive at all. Section 2 is a simple application of adaptive matrix on Slovak language.

The introduction of this paper is too short.

The authors mention that this is the first work of this kind for the Slovak language. can you present references where adaptive matrix tests are used in other languages?

Out of a total number of 30 tests, 15 tests meet the demanding criteria. I think this test case number is too small.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article describes testing in noise based on the First Adaptive Matrix Sentence Test in Slovak language. In the work, the authors present the issues related to the presented topic to a limited extent, which means that the reader sometimes has to guess the content. Nevertheless, the issues presented in the article are current and may have practical applications in the future. The solution proposed by the authors was presented correctly, and the conclusions were drawn based on the obtained results.

Recommendations for improving the manuscript:

1. The introduction is short and does not fully illustrate the problem.

2. The purpose of the work presented at the beginning of the article should be clarified (which is the authors' responsibility).

3. Why is Figure 2 placed in Chapter 3.1 and this figure is referenced in Chapter 2.1?

4. A similar remark applies to Figure 7.

5. Is it necessary to create a separate chapter 8 (it is very short)?

6. Has the method been tested on people with hearing impairment?

7. Do the authors predict the practical use of the presented solution?

8. I would suggest expanding the bibliography.

Title: Testing in Noise based on the First Adaptive Matrix Sentence Test in Slovak Language

This study deals with an acoustic perceptual test performed based on adaptive matrix sentence test in Slovak Language. The manuscript meets the scope of the Special Issue "Modeling of Multimodal Speech Recognition and Language Processing". However, some issues should be addressed and corrected by the authors:

1) There are too many decimals in the findings.

2) The introduction section needs to be improved. Emphasize the motivation, literature review, purpose, and methodology.

3) In Table 1, include a first line with the labels for each category.

4) The words corresponding to the verbs, adjectives and objects described in the text (after Table 1) should be enclosed in quotation marks for emphasis.

5) Some figures (Figs 5 to 9) need to be enhanced for better visualization.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

In the manuscript “Testing in Noise based on the First Adaptive Matrix Sentence Test in Slovak Language” submitted by Eva Kiktová, Rudolph Sock, and Peter Getlík, the authors demonstrate an acoustic perceptual test based on the adaptive matrix in Slovak Language. This test reaches -7.03431dB of SRT50 with a slope of 13.129%/dB.

The authors first logically create the Slovak adaptive matrix with the introduction of recording and editing the speech materials. The participants and equipment are then introduced. The authors systematically carried out the experiment with the optimization phase and evaluation phase. Beyond that, the authors compare the results along the test routine, statistically ensure the same difficulty of tests, compare the new and experienced participants, and analyze based on different word categories.

Overall, this is a significant work of great impact. There is no doubt that this will benefit people speaking Slovak Language. The whole manuscript is very systematic and rigorous with well-presented experiments and data. This manuscript is recommended to be published after considering some minor remarks.

(1)   In section 2, the authors introduce the Slovak adaptive matrix. Could the authors also plot and show the phoneme distribution of the base matrix? Does it contain all phonemes in a similar frequency as daily spoken language?

(2)   Some of the figures can be improved. For example, the labels of Figure 5 are too small to read. In Figure 6, could the authors explain what the small circles mean? Please also make the label larger. In Figure 9, it would be great if the authors could mark (a), (b), and (c) for the three figures and explain them separately. Some minor revisions will make the whole presentation even better.

(3)   In section 10, the authors discuss the performance of psychometric curves. Could the authors also include the uncertainties of the STD and SRT? This will help people better understand the experimental results.
