Role of microbes in alleviating crop drought stress: A review

This paper is presenting a dedicated researcher with a focus on understanding and improving crop resistance to drought stress through the exploration of plant-associated microbiota. Proficient in analyzing the impact of drought on various aspects of crop growth and experienced in investigating the role of soil microbial communities in mitigating these effects. Seeking to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in crop science and enhance agricultural practices for sustainable food production.

The manuscript is very important and emphasize crucial issues.

I only suggest a table with the existent background in the community (authors, doi and which is the focus of the study: e.g. effect of microbes on physiology; on soil health…..)

Author Response

Response: Thanks for the reviewer`s suggestion and we have completed a table to summarize the crops, microbes, and effects of microbes on crop drought resistance and related mechanisms in the revised version (Table 1).

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

A review manuscript entitled "Role of microbes in mitigating crop drought stress: a review" describes the effects of drought stress on plants in terms of germination, photosynthesis, nutrient uptake, biomass, and yield, focusing on the response of soil microbial communities to drought stress and the interactions between plants and microbes under drought stress. In addition, this review presents the morphophysiological, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms underlying the mitigating effect of microbes on crop drought stress. Although it is a vast topic, this review is presented in an interesting and not-too-long way with the results known so far on the interactions between microbes and plants in response to drought stress. I think the study is detailed, well-organized, and well-conducted. I recommend acceptance with minor corrections.

Minor corrections:

- The quality of image 2 is not satisfactory, it needs to be replaced with a better image.
