2024 December-1 - 172 articles

Cover Story: 1. Worldwide, perinatal mental health (PMH) conditions are mostly manageable when promptly identified. In the United Kingdom (UK) and most countries worldwide, midwives are professionally required to undertake an initial PMH risk assessment at every maternity contact. However, studies have found that midwives feel that they are not well-equipped to provide effective care for women with PMH needs. This study’s research question is “How well does the PMH education and placements on the pre-registration midwifery programme develop the NQMs’ knowledge, attitude, skills and habits (KASH) in preparation for their post-registration role in working with women and birthing people at risk of or experiencing PMH issues?” This study aimed to explore the extent to which pre-registration midwifery PMH education and placements prepare the NQMs’ KASH for their post-registration role. View this paper
