CFD Modelling and Numerical Simulation of the Windage Characteristics of a High-Speed Gearbox Based on Negative Pressure Regulation
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
In this article, the authors develop and demonstrate a method for modeling and simulating the windage characteristics of a high-speed gearbox. In general, the paper is well-written and nicely presented. The conclusions are reasonable based on the data collected. I recommend acceptance of the article to Processes, but would like to ask the authors to consider some minor points for improvements before final acceptance.
1. Add a table at the beginning of the paper outlining the major acronyms and technical terms.
2. In the Introduction, add some additional discussion on how important knowledge of the windage behavior is relative to other expected system behaviors. Please discuss from both design and performance perspectives.
3. Section 2.1 needs some additional references related to claims and values used.
4. Figure 15 needs some additional discussion, as it is not immediately clear what this figure is trying to represent. Please also do a cutout image (similar to what was done in Figures 6, 8, and 9) showing detail in the converged region around WM = 0.
5. Improve the presentation of the legend in Figure 24.
6. Discuss some recommendations and ideas for future experimental validation of the models and CFD results found during this study.

The authors of this article present the study of windage characteristics of high-speed gearbox based on negative pressure regulation. The topic of the article is interesting because the windage power loss in high-speed gears seriously affects the transmission efficiency of gear systems and will cause huge energy consumption. The article fully fits into the concept of the journal from a professional and scientific point of view.
I have the following recommendations for the authors of the article:
- fix chapter numbering - chapter 4 is missing,
- add more detailed description to Figure 15.

Reviewer comments:
The paper will be ready for publication after some corrections that authors must accomplish.
· The amount of information in the introduction is quite consistent, but the data presented should be structured so that the reader can get an idea of what is presented more easily;
· Also, at the end of the introduction section, a brief description of the main sections of the work should be made, to better highlight the content;
· Some figures should be positioned on the center of the page for better appearance. Please also consult the rules for authors of the journal;
· Tables 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 are too large, exceeding the printable space of the page. They must fit on the page;
· The data presented in table 5 must be re-verified in terms of total windage loss value;
· Figure 20 can be removed because there is the same data shown in the next figure.
