Cover Story: Cardiac fibrosis contributes significantly to CVD, causing substantial global morbidity and mortality. This review comprehensively examines the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cardiac fibrosis, highlighting the need for novel therapeutic strategies. Striking a balance between inhibiting fibrosis and preserving tissue repair is challenging, as current off-label medications have limited efficacy and potential effects, prompting the exploration of alternatives. Bioactive compounds show promise in preclinical studies, targeting inflammation, fibroblast activation, collagen synthesis, and degradation. However, rigorous clinical trials are essential to validate their efficacy and safety. This review contributes to advancing anti-fibrotic therapy, offering hope for improved cardiac fibrosis management. View this paper
