Comments and Suggestions for Authors
This review covers a significant subject in adopting rational strategies for enhanced water splitting. The manuscript is written in a consistent way presenting the recent advancements and I believe it would be helpful for scientists in the corresponding fields. The manuscript can be accepted after the following issue is addressed. The current challenges on water splitting technology, especially in photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic systems should be highlighted. The authors may consider provide further perspectives on aspects related to density-functional theory studies on photocatalysis and photoelectrocatalysis, the interfacial charge dynamics for metal–organic frameworks, yolk-shell nanostructures- synthesis, photocatalysis and interfacial charge dynamics, semiconductor nanoheterostructures for photoconversion applications, near infrared-driven photoelectrochemical water splitting and future prospects, and photoelectrochemical cells for solar hydrogen production along with supporting references.

This review offers an in-depth analysis of recent advancements in functional ceramics for water splitting, focusing on key mechanisms, challenges, and future prospects. It examines the potential of compositionally complex perovskite oxides and high-entropy alloys/ceramics in solar thermochemical water splitting, emphasizing innovative approaches and the associated challenges. However, before considering publication, the following issues need to be addressed.
1. Make sure that all abbreviations are written out in full the first time you use them. This is especially important in the abstract and conclusion, where the writer needs to scrutinize the entire article from that perspective.
2. This paper needs to summarize and outline the advantages and disadvantages of functional ceramics as well as the advantages and limitations of their application in hydrolysis.
3. Almost all of the images in the article are not cited in the text and the author needs to complete them.
4. As a review article, the authors need to understand the significance of citing images. There is no mention of the mechanism of one-step and two-step photocatalytic water splitting in the theoretical aspect of lines 58-74, so why put Figure 2?
5. This paper needs to have a photocatalytic overall water splitting mechanism study and for the introduction of ceramics.
6. To highlight the advantages of functional ceramics in water splitting, the authors should consider creating a table to compare them with other materials.
7. English needs to be touched up, and spelling and grammar need to be double checked.
