Cover Story: This rapid evidence assessment summarised the measures, definitions and constructs associated with European identity among youth. European identity is inherently complex and adopted by choice. Identifying with Europe appears to be based on (perceived) commonality (e.g., culture, history, desires, geography, political identity), while acknowledging diversity (e.g., historical, cultural, and linguistic roots). For youth who identify with Europe, this category is intrinsically related to belonging.  Among youth, European identity was associated with more positive intergroup attitudes, perceived benefits of EU membership, and civic engagement. Thus, European identity in youth may yield individual and social benefits, seeding the foundations for social cohesion and peace. View this paper
