Travel Award

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Evaluation Committee, I am pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 Aerospace Travel Awards.

Malte Merk, a PhD student at the Technical University of Munich, whose research focuses on identification of combustion noise and flame dynamics of confined turbulent flames. He is planning to present his work “Quantitative Comparisons between LES Predictions and Experimental Measurements of Sound Pressure Spectra in a Conned Swirl Combustor” at the AIAA 2017: Propulsion and Energy.

Vittorio Memmolo, a PhD student at the University of Naples Federico II, whose research focuses on Structural Health Monitoring of aerospace composite structures using reliable wave propagation methods. He is planning to present his work “Advanced Damage Detection in Stiffened Composites Using Distributed Sensors” and “Acousto-Ultrasonic Investigation on Composites for Electro Mechanical Impedance Method Assessment” at the 20th International Conference of Composite Structures.

The awards consist of 600 Swiss Francs each towards attending these conferences.

It was a difficult decision with such high quality applications for the awards and we would like to thank all applicants for submitting their diverse and thought-provoking presentations. We congratulate the winners for their accomplishments.
