Dear Colleagues,

Viticulture, centered around Vitis vinifera L. cultivation, is a cornerstone of agricultural production in numerous countries worldwide. However, this vital industry faces unprecedented challenges from both anthropogenic factors and climate change. The injudicious use of pesticides, heavy machinery, synthetic fertilizers, and herbicides, coupled with rising temperatures and altered precipitation patterns, threatens the delicate balance of vineyard ecosystems and the quality of wine production.

The compounding effects of these challenges manifest in various forms of soil degradation, including compaction, pollution, erosion, organic matter depletion, and biodiversity loss. These issues not only compromise grape quality and yield but also diminish the ecosystem services provided by vineyard landscapes. As global warming intensifies, the need for innovative, sustainable approaches to viticulture becomes increasingly urgent.

This Special Issue aims to explore cutting-edge agronomic techniques and management strategies that enhance vineyard resilience in the face of climate change while promoting environmental stewardship. We seek contributions that address the following:

  • Climate-adaptive viticultural practices;
  • Soil health restoration and maintenance in vineyards;
  • Water-efficient irrigation systems and drought management;
  • Biodiversity conservation in vineyard ecosystems;
  • Integrated pest and disease management strategies;
  • Canopy management techniques for optimizing grape quality;
  • Precision viticulture and digital technologies;
  • Carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas mitigation in vineyards;
  • Sustainable winemaking practices complementing vineyard management;
  • Economic and social aspects of transitioning to sustainable viticulture.

By compiling a diverse range of studies, reviews, and perspectives, we aim to provide a comprehensive resource for researchers, viticulturists, oenologists, and policymakers striving to secure the future of viticulture in a changing world.
