Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The principles of Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement (3Rs) are the framework that promotes the replacement of laboratory animals for non-sentient alternatives, the reduction of them to a minimum, and the refinement of experiments and their housing conditions to cause the minimum pain and distress. Efforts to refine and optimize the care and use of animals in research have been ongoing for many years and have led to general standardization of animals’ housing, genetics, and health status. However, Replacement is still the most challenging of the 3Rs in terms of the technical and strategic nature of the research that is needed.
This Special Issue invites original research and review papers that address any aspect of the 3Rs in laboratory animal research.
Topics of special interest are the replacement, animal welfare, translation, ethics and regulation of animal models.
