Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Tobacco smoke poses a significant health risk and is one of the leading contributors to cardiovascular complications in humans. Its transmission through first-hand, second-hand, or third-hand smoke makes it a dangerous cardiovascular risk factor for children and adults who are exposed to it, whether acutely or chronically.

The recognized pathogenic mechanisms behind this are primarily mediated by oxidative stress. Recent studies have shown an increase in oxidative stress in both children exposed to second-hand smoke and adult smokers, even when using alternative tobacco products such as heated tobacco or electronic cigarettes. Increased oxidative stress can lead to inflammation, cellular damage, and an increased risk of chronic diseases.

This Special Issue will explore the relationship between traditional and non-traditional cigarette smoke and its effects on health. Specifically, these effects will be evaluated in both animal and human models that are exposed acutely or chronically, whether passively or directly. Furthermore, this Special Issue will delve into the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying these effects, offering insights into potential preventive and therapeutic strategies to mitigate the damage caused by both traditional and alternative smoking products. Original research and review articles on this topic are welcome.
