Challenges in Preventive Approaches and Pharmaco-Therapeutic Options for Heart Failure

Dear Colleagues,

Heart failure remains a highly prevalent life-threatening condition in older adults, associated with an increased short- and long-term risk of death and hospitalization and poor functional capacity and quality of life, despite a number of recent approaches.  Although the conventional approach based on heart failure phenotypes, age and gender particularities, concomitant comorbidities, and the use of further invasive/non-invasive technologies has reached significant milestones over the last decade, the latest guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic heart failure have left a number of knowledge gaps regarding the principles of heart failure management, for example,  in patients with different comorbidity profiles as well as in individuals who require effective prevention of adverse cardiac remodeling and the optimization of guideline-based therapies.

We are pleased to invite all researchers and clinicians interested in heart failure to submit your own findings, including basic science reports, observational and clinical studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, to this Special Issue.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements, challenges, and future directions in the field of acute and chronic heart failure.  In addition to covering established practices, this Special Issue will also delve into cutting-edge research, both basic and clinical, highlighting innovative predictive and novel diagnostic and biomarker-guided approaches, promoting effective therapies and potential breakthroughs that hold promise for enhancing the individualization of patient care and improving clinical outcomes.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome.  Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

1. Basic scientific research and narrative review articles with regard to the pathophysiology of adverse cardiac remodeling and acute/chronic heart failure;
2. Observational and clinical studies regarding the management of heart failure depending on its phenotypes, etiology, and comorbidity profile;
3. Clinical studies in terms of the personal optimization of heart failure prediction and guideline-based management, including single and biomarker-guided therapies, pharmaco-therapeutic approaches, and risk stratification;
4. Clinical and translation research (progenitor/stem cells, non-cell therapies, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine) in adverse cardiac remodeling and heart failure.
