Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Over the past decade, advanced structural metals have been experiencing an ever-growing deployment in several engineering applications thanks to advances in manufacturing techniques and increased demand for durable multifunctional components. We are organizing a Special Issue on the Mechanical Properties of Structural Metals in Applied Sciences. As Guest Editor, I invite you to submit a manuscript for consideration and possible publication in this Special Issue.

The Issue aims to highlights recent advances in structural metals in terms of design, topological and mechanical characterization, and application. We invite contributions covering topics including but not limited to the following: multi-material metallic structures and composites; metallic lattices and foams; topology optimization; finite element analysis; destructive and non-destructive characterization of structural metals; structure–property relationships; metallurgy of structural metals, additive, subtractive, and hybrid manufacturing; application of structural metals in different engineering disciplines; crashworthiness of structural metals under dynamic loading; metallic composites and sandwich panels under impact and blast loading; design of structural metals; and the mechanics of plates and shells, nanostructured materials, high-entropy alloys, bulk-metallic glasses, and oxide dispersion strengthened alloys. The works describing with tensile, compression, shear, torsion, creep, and fatigue behavior from elastic to plastic stage are focused through this issue. This issue encourages the researchers for describing the mechanical behavior by correlating several characterization techniques, namely, x-ray diffraction, optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and atomic probe tomography. The advanced materials manufactured from powder metallurgy, casting, laser processing, thin film technology, additive printing technology, etc… are the main scope of this issue. Further, materials modeling, finite element analysis, optimization, and any modelling techniques (using artificial intelligent) dealing with the mechanical behavior are also cover in this issue. Original research articles, short communications and reviews are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
